I’ve gotten quite a few e-mails about my recent Thai babes blog post that I made. I figured that I should do a follow-up response to all of them to try and clarify a few things. First off, I don’t usually use the word “babes” a lot when I speak about Thai women. I go through random phases where I’ll use strange or funny words for a period of time, and I don’t really give it much thought. A month later it might sound silly.
One guy wrote in saying that I sounded like a “surfer dude.” That made me laugh as that is exactly what I think of when I hear this term. It’s not really a term that gives the image of a Thai girl, but I could definitely see a California surfer guy visiting Thailand calling a lot of the Thai beach girls, “babes.” No, I’m not from California, and I’ve only flown through there on occasion. I think if you go out and hear someone call a girl a babe in the Bangkok nightlife…or any nightlife scene for that matter, people will laugh a bit.
Some of you disagreed that Thai girls, in general, are laid back. Keep in mind that I’m comparing Thai girls to the rest of the world’s girls. I really enjoy spending time and nights out with them because they are not in your face, pushy, or overly needy. Yes, there are plenty of exceptions, but when comparing them to your average western counterpart, I’d have to hand the trophy to the Thais in that respect.
A few readers wrote in about having good experiences with shopping on the first date. I hear ya! If the feeling is right, go for it. All women around the world love ice cream, chocolate, and shopping. If you’re cool with it and you don’t think she’s trying to take you for a ride, by all means, go shopping! I, for one, don’t really like shopping, especially in Thailand. I run in, grab what I want, and get out of dodge! Thai babes are shopping professionals.
Regarding taking a girl to an expensive restaurant on the first date, to each his own. Maybe if I was making a million baht a month, I wouldn’t mind doing something like that or even think twice about it. The fact that I’m not the heir to Thailand’s Red Bull fortune doesn’t help either. In my opinion, it’s all relative. Then again, I wouldn’t want a girl just looking at me and thinking, “money, nice dinners, free stuff.”
So yeah…in conclusion I think that there are always exceptions. Not everything is black and white, and this is 100% true when it comes to Thai girls and Thai dating. If you have ever been on a date and have had any experiences regarding what I’ve posted above, please let me know about it. Also, I’ll try my best to stay away from saying Thai babes too often 😉
